Our Elementary Program at St. Mary of the Purification features programs that seek to fulfill differentiated instruction through small groups while implementing the TEKS (Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills) and the Archdiocesan Standards.
English Language Arts Program utilizes Literacy First Curriculum in line with the Archdiocesan Instructional Model. Through Literacy First, students in the 1st and 2nd grade are issued phonological awareness , phonics , and fluency assessments at the beginning, middle and end of the year to track their literacy development. Teachers then structure students into small groups based on need from these assessments to teach lessons from Literacy First to increase students ability to read. Grammar skills are taught daily through whole group instruction, and classrooms implement writing workshops to increase writing skills. Third through sixth grade students are assessed on fluency and work throughout the school year similar to 1st and 2nd grades structure.
St. Mary’s Mathematics Program utilizes the Saxon Math Program. This is a complete mathematics program that focuses on fact fluency, computation, and problem-solving. Students are assessed periodically throughout the school year. In the math program, our students are taught in small groups based their particular need.
Our Science curriculum follows the TEKS (Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills) and the Archdiocesan Standards with the use of Nacny Larsen Science Program.
The Social Studies program utilizes Harcourt curriculum along with the integration of Kamali Academy Black History curriculum infusion into every subject area.
